A good seaman, always hopes for the best and plans for the worse

It is time to sharpen our MOB recovering skills.

Sobering MOB Facts from the US Coast Guard:

  • 24% were characterized as falls overboard
  • 24% died at night, 76% died in daytime
  • 63% did not know how to swim
  • 8% of non–swimmers were wearing life jacket
  • 90% occurred in calm weather with < 1′ chop
  • 4% of the boats had two engines
  • 85% were men
  • Average age was 47
  • Alcohol consumption played a part in
  • 27% of daytime deaths
  • 50% of nighttime deaths

This training is mandatory for all crew who need to have done a MOB drill at least once per year, but we would like you to do more.

We are going to run through a complete MOB recovery procedure. You may get wet, so prepare for it.

As part of the day out there, we will also going to simulate engine failure and what do do in case this happens (i.e. dropping anchour under sail and picking it up a mooring under sail)

It is going to be action packed.
