Information for Schools & Organisations:

Location: Southport Yacht Club Marina

Sailors with disABILITIES offer a Winds of Joy Program which is designed to give children with disability and disadvantaged children and youth the opportunity to go sailing. Through our crew, SWD can provide positive role models, demonstrating that people with a disability do not have to be confined by it and creating optimism. This program is run entirely by volunteers and there is no cost to participants for this activity. Group bookings of minimum 10, including at least 8 with disability/special needs can be booked by school or community groups. We can accommodate up to 3 wheelchairs. Information For Crew:

  • Crew numbers: Minimum 6, maximum 8.
  • Crew must have a valid Queensland Blue Card and NSW Working With Children Check
  • Any injuries or medical conditions that will impact your role must be notified to the Skipper
  • SWD uniform should be worn
  • Bring tape, torch, hat, knife, water and sunscreen
  • Bring the Crew Level Skills Check List and sign off with Skipper and 2IC when appropriate
  • Please follow SWD SOP and procedures, and instructions from the Skipper and 2IC at all times
  • Report any damage or broken parts to the Skipper at the end of each program
  • All crew must stay with the boat to assist with shut down tasks until completed
  • The boat/s should  (where possible) always be left in a better condition than how you found it
  • All SWD boats are non-smoking
