SWD Events scheduled for Saturday 28 September 2019

Boat Delivery - Newcastle to Sydney

Time: Sat September 28, 4:00 pm to Sat September 28, 5:00 pm

Available to Crew Volunteers Only

Crew Terms of Engagement:

  • Anticipated delivery duration: 1 day
  • Please book with a minimum 4 weeks notice of delivery
  • Be aware of potential sea sickness and how to manage
  • Any injuries or medical conditions that will impact your ability to perform a crew role must be notified to the Skipper
  • Crew numbers - Minimum 5, maximum 8
  • Where event is over multiple days, you must sign up for all days
  • This event is by expression of interest only, final crew will be confirmed by crew coordinator prior to delivery
  • A valid Queensland Blue Card and NSW Working With Children Check is required
  • 75% of crew to have a valid Sea Safety & Survival Certificate
  • You are encouraged to hold a current first aid and radio operators certificate
  • You must have appropriate qualifications, experience and skill levels to meet race requirements, safety standards and performance goals (to be decided by skipper and coordinator)
  • Submit a current emergency contact and medical information form
  • Bring knife, torch, tape, hat, water and sunscreen
  • Bring the Crew Level Skills Check List and sign off with Skipper and 2IC when appropriate
  • Bring appropriate clothing and wet weather gear for expected conditions
  • Bring needed medication for personal conditions and brief skipper
  • Bring personal hygiene products and sleeping bag. Equipment is to be named
  • Follow SWD SOP and procedures, along with instructions from Skipper & 2IC at all times
  • Report any damage or broken parts to the Skipper at the end of each program
  • Boat deliveries usually require your involvement with adjoining programs
  • Boat deliveries require the crew to clean the boat thouroughly at the end of delivery
  • All crew must stay with the boat to assist with shut down tasks until completed
  • The boat/s should  (where possible) always be left in a better condition than how you found it
  • All SWD boats are non-smoking

Location: Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club

Sailors with disABILITIES offer a Winds of Joy Program which is designed to give children with disability and disadvantaged children and youth the opportunity to go sailing. Through our crew, SWD can provide positive role models, demonstrating that people with a disability do not have to be confined by it and creating optimism. This program is run entirely by volunteers and there is no cost to participants for this activity. Group bookings of minimum 10, including at least 8 with disability/special needs can be booked by school or community groups. We can accommodate up to 3 wheelchairs. Information For Crew:

  • Crew must have a valid Queensland Blue Card and NSW Working With Children Check
  • Any injuries or medical conditions that will impact your role must be notified to the Skipper
  • SWD uniform should be worn
  • Bring tape, torch, hat, knife, water and sunscreen
  • Bring the Crew Level Skills Check List and sign off with Skipper and 2IC when appropriate
  • Please follow SWD SOP and procedures, and instructions from the Skipper and 2IC at all times
  • Report any damage or broken parts to the Skipper at the end of each program
