Creating Optimism for 20 years
Windcraft Raffle Huge Success

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who bought tickets and volunteered their time to make the Windcraft yacht raffle such a huge success.

David Pescud said he was very humbled by the support of the sailing community as he accepted the cheque for $174,550.73 on behalf of SWD from Peter Hrones of Windcraft.

In a short speech David explained the funds would enable SWD to go forward into a new phase of development over the next two years allowing us to offer opportunity to even more people each year.

Congratulations to John Scott from Sydney who bought the winning ticket and is now the proud owner of a brand new Hanse 345 yacht.

Creating Optimism this Spring

As the weather starts to warm up there is heaps of opportunity for people with disability or at disadvantage get out on the water and feel the winds of optimism blow over them.

Try Sail days, Twilight Racing, Winds of Change and Come and Try days are all underway again this month.

Carers Days on Sundays provide much needed relaxation and respite for hardworking carers and siblings.

If you would like to help us run these programs you can volunteer your time for on water or off water positions, you can donate online or look at our sponsorship opportunities.

Northern Campaign Special

The Northern Campaign was a huge success with hundreds of kids getting the opportunity to get out on the water and experience the pure joy of sailing.

The Northern Campaign team have been sharing their stories on faceboat
- Kristi Foster talks about the trip up to Southport

- Harry Atkinson describes his four nights on faceboat

- Ian Wyard tells a very witty fisherman's tale and talks about the cool wheelchairs on board and body odour. Listen to Ian's tales and more about SWD when Ian talks to Ablequest radio, email us for a copy.

- David Pescud describes the effect of childrens' laughter

- Steve Emmett wonders if Dicpario was on board and

- Captain Mark Goode made us all smile and think a bit deeper with his Captain's log updates

Thanks to you all for making us smile with your stories - but more importantly thanks for giving the kids brilliant times on the water.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Thanks to everyone who supported the Windcraft Raffle by buying a ticket, donating services or helping with promotion - with your help we were able to ensure a significant injection of funds into our programs.

Thanks also to everyone who has sent photos to the Dick Smith Charity appeal. We raised $10,000 as a direct result of your hard work.

Thanks to Marine Safety Works for supporting a two-day Safety Sea Survival Course for our volunteers. The most important lesson learned was 'Stay on the boat unless it is sinking'. It was also a good chance to check out Kayle’s new Crewsaver 290kN racing lifejackets in action donated by RFD

Thanks also to our corporate partner Xylem for their ongoing support. Xylem has FIVE market leading brands, each delivering innovative and effective solutions. This makes Xylem Australia's premier provider of all water and wastewater solutions.

Fun Sponsorship Opportunity

The Rotary Regatta is a your chance to sponsor a boat, have a fabulous afternoon AND help SWD.

12-15 staff can enjoy lunch at the CYCA and racing on Sydney Harbour. Sponsors are encouraged to dress crew in polos, caps, spray jackets to generate their corporate feel for the day.

A cool idea for an end of year corporate event - you can even sponsor 2 boats for some in-house competition.

Please reference SWD in your enquiry to the regatta organisers or email for more information.
