Women Who Sail Australia Donation

We are grateful to Women Who Sail Australia for choosing SWD as one of the charities for funds raised at the April Gathering on the Bay conference in Port Stephens.

We chatted to Women Who Sail Australia (WWSA) spokeswoman Caitlin Harris who said, "WWSA's mission is to connect women on the water. Our goal is to create communities, empower women, and encourage a love of sailing and respect for the ocean environment.

Supporting SWD is part of our vision to create inclusive communities and make sailing accessible and welcoming to everyone."

One of WWSA’s members, Gail Grant, handed over a cheque to SWD’s Head of Fundraising, Rob Lawrenson, for $4,185.97, being for half the funds raised at the Gathering on the Bay. The other half of funds raised was donated to Marine Rescue, a worthy cause for all sea goers.

SWD’s Rob Lawrenson said, “We can’t thank WWSA enough for this donation. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on donations to run our programs. This will help us continue to provide programs to young Australians with a disability and facing adversity.”

Gail hands over a generous cheque to SWD's Rob Lawrenson outside the SWD office at D'Albora Marinas Rushcutters Bay.

Five of SWD’s female volunteers attended the conference. SWD’s Kristi Foster spoke about her sailing experience as a person with disability over the course of the past 20 years. Since then, much has happened. You can read Kristi's story here.

For women sailors who would like to join next year, the 3rd annual WWSA Gathering on the Bay will be held from April 6th to 8th 2018 at Port Stephens, with continued support for SWD.
