SWD's Winds of Care days are designed for respite, fun and care for carers of people with disabilities or for those who care for people who may be ill. The sail lasts for a few hours and takes place in a safe space where volunteers proactively care for participants who usually come from dedicated carers groups.
The reasoning behind the Carers Day is that carers spend much of their time (in some cases, all of their time) taking care of others. They often don't get time to do basic chores, much less take time out for themselves.
SWD's program is a chance for all kinds of carers--mums, dads, grandparents, guardians, brothers, sisters, friends and others who care for disabled and disadvantaged people--to take a bit of time out for themselves and have some fun and a few thrills.
A few weeks ago, a group of carers from Windgap Foundation came on board Winds of Care and made the most of it! They told stories, laughed a lot and sang songs throughout the day.
This short video shows the magic that happened when the Windgap Foundation Carers group sang songs from Fiji.
Listen for the "Rushcutters Bay..." at the end.
