Sailors with disABILITIES

A Message from SWD Founder, David Pescud

We chatted with SWD Founder, David Pescud, about what's happening in SWD and what's coming up.

"This Wednesday, we had so many enthusiastic guests and volunteers on board for a guest sail," David said. "Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves and I myself got joy seeing potential volunteers getting to know the boat, Kayle, and each other.

Coming up, we’re looking forward to the Northern Campaign kicking off in a few weeks’ time. Although it’s a truncated program, we’re still expecting over 500 young people and schools to come on board in Southport, Coffs Harbour and Newcastle."

On a different note, we wish the Landrover Sydney to Gold Coast Yacht Race competitors well this weekend. It’s the first time we haven’t done the race for years but, this year, we decided to focus on running more programs for children with disabilities across Australia instead.

We have really enjoyed the CYCA Winter Series races this year. We got fourth overall and, more importantly, we had a great deal of fun with a crew of people with disabilities and able-bodied people. We also had some of the young people from Lake Illawarra's Winds of Change program come back and join us racing on some Sundays. I’m looking forward to repeating this in the Summer Series.

I want to thank our team and all our volunteers for an amazing effort getting all these events organised and sorted going into the future."
