SWD Making Waves Rally 2018

The weather gods smiled again this year giving us a perfect day on Sydney Harbour, this combined with the wonderful venue provided by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, helped ensure that the 2018 SWD Making Waves Rally held on March 9th was a successful event.

With Just enough wind to keep the boats and their crew happy, the 20 yachts with their 175 participants from various companies, set off at 2pm to compete in two divisions.

89 volunteers assisted for the day to ensure things ran smoothly, 49 of whom were Volunteer Crew.

The participating Boats for the day were mostly donated for the event.

Plenty of good natured banter between the corporate teams ensured that the Rally was not only fun but a little bit competitive. Although it seemed some teams were a little more serious than those kicking back with a beer or wine in hand to enjoy their sail on the harbour.

We would like to thank these companies who joined us for the day - Ability Options, Aleksandar Design Group, AMP Advice, Diagnostic Radiation Services, Edgecliff Automotive, G & M Financial, GMG Design, Jaya Sooriah (who was a private entry), LANSA, McGrath Real Estate Edgecliff, Mon Financial, LNP Audit & Assurance, National Pump & Energy, NNW Property, Permission Digital, PG Rated (also a private group), Rork Projects, Sandstone Technology & Survitec Group.
Division A Winners were - 1st AMP Advice on UBS Wild Thing, 2nd the 'PG Rated' Group on Duende and 3rd the Aleksandar Design Group on Sydney.
Division B Winners were - 1st McGrath Real Estate Edgecliff on Baltic Lady, 2nd Edgecliff Automotive on Martini and 3rd  was the Private Group Jaya on Rocksalt.

The 'wine wall' totalled 50 bottles of wine and every ticket purchased won a bottle of wine, this was a great success with Mark & Michelle Ralph taking home the top drop.
In the Raffle the winners were Michael Baker who won Vivid Festival Sailing Cruise, Andrew Richards and Donald Graham each won Zhik Sailing Gear, Geoff Lavis won the Flying Experience with Sydney Flying College, Deb Sandars (wife of SWD Founder David Pescud) won the Catalina Dining Voucher, and when David tried to redraw the raffle, the whole crowd agreed that there could be no better winners than David and Deb who give so selflessly to others! The Aquabumps photo was won by Andrew (sorry Andrew, we missed your surname!) and High Tea at Sir Stamford was won also by Michael Baker.

At the end of the Presentation it was announced that the Rally had raised over $50,000 for Sailors with disAbilities and that this equates to 330 kids being able to access our programs.

SWD would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers who put in countless hours of work to make this event a success, as well as those boat owners who donated their yachts and their crew, and the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia for providing us with the fantastic venue. The many companies who participated in the Rally and those companies that sponsored the day in various ways. Thanks also to those who photographed and filmed the days events.

Thanks to all for joining us as we strive towards our Vision to build optimism among disabled and disadvantaged people through the medium of sailing.

We hope that you will all join us again in 2019 for the SWD Making Waves Rally.
