Our Race Program has had a great day on board WOTEVA doing the Lion Island Race - the first race in the CYCA Short Ocean Pointscore Series.
Conditions offshore made for some fun downwind wave surfing on the leg up to Lion island. If you've never been surfing on a TP52 race yacht then you're missing out - so much fun! It was a bit of a bumpy and wet ride back home going upwind in 25 knots of breeze.
We achieved 4th placing from 22 boats on handicap and are really pleased with that!
WOTEVA is feeling amazing in her new antifouled hull thanks to our sponsors International Yacht Paint (AkzoNobel). Their antifoul product VC Offshore is specially formulated with a fluoro micro additive that reduces surface friction and drag, making it ideal for race yachts.
Head Skipper of our Race Program, David Pescud, had this to say in reflection:
"I want to congratulate our race crew on a job well done yesterday. From turning up for boat call on time and ready to go, to giving their best during the race, and although everyone was tired by the end, the boat was packed down efficiently and cleaned properly. I was very impressed.
How do we measure success? Is it watching your team do a nice tack in 25 knots of breeze on the way home to Sydney? Or is it when everyone arrives on time and gets straight into preparing the boat for the race? Or is it when they all walk off the boat together, with the boat packed down, to have a drink together in the yacht club as a team? I’ve never been sure how to define success. Whatever it is, that will do it for me. After 63 years of racing boats, the inspiration I get from my team is beyond measure. The optimism for the next outing is contagious amongst the crew."
