Wright of Passage Come Sailing Day

Welcome aboard to Stage 2 of the Wright of Passage program!

Below is an update from Delilah, our Wright of Passage Program Coordinator

Wednesday 9th October 2019 was a huge day for Wright of Passage

Our dedicated volunteers assembled early to prepare the boat for the day and meet so that they were ready to work with our new participants. Meanwhile 7 young people made their way across the city (some were delayed by an hour, but they all made it in the end). Finally we set sail, all hands on deck.

The participants began to gather confidence - they talked to each other and to the crew, asked many questions (we asked them many questions too), and slowly they began to leave their shell’s behind, opting to engage, learn and above all, have a lot of fun!

One young man summed it up quite perfectly: “You find something that makes you feel good when you do it, you keep doing it and get better and better at it. That’s what makes it all worth it.”

We look forward to working with these wonderful young people in the coming weeks!
