Great times at Sydney Boat Show

It was fantastic to see so many of you at the Sydney Boat Show.

The SWD stand was busy for the full 5 days with many people jumping on board the raffle prize 'Amazing Grace'... standing behind the wheel... and imagining their new lifestyle as the lucky winner.

We heard lots of comments from ticket buyers along the lines of...

"It's great to think that my $100 donation will give two kids with disability the opportunity get to go out sailing for the day. And if I win a yacht as well...even better!"

Our stand at the show also included our orange faceboat Moksha with more SWD volunteers on board to chat to interested visitors about the life changing opportunities SWD provide.

Raffle ticket sales close on 31st August - if you haven't bought yours yet or if you know someone who would like to win a yacht here's the link to online tickets

Fun on the Northern Campaign

The Northern Campaign crew are busy bringing the optimistic spirit of SWD to Queensland. Despite a very tight schedule they've still found time to send blogs and photos back to base for us to share with you.

We especially love Kristi's account of the journey to Southport, John's summary of his week on board faceboat, and of course Skipper Mark's Captain's Log Star Date 31st July!

Not surprisingly there has been heaps of media interest in the campaign - see all the coverage here

Here's a comment from one of the teachers that speaks for itself.

"Thank you so much to Ian and the crew who through their care and kindness made a real impact on our students. We had a wonderful time and this excursion will be remembered for many years to come. Thank you to all the business people who support this organization that give all youth an experience they will never forget. God bless you all."

You can follow the Northern Campaign on the faceboat website and see their current position here

Wot Eva 13th in Southport Race

Wot Eva Wot Eva

Congratulations to the Wot Eva racing team for 13th position in line honours in the race to Southport.

Yacht racing is a tough sport where teamwork and skill are the keys to battling some of the most extreme conditions mother nature can throw at us.

Our sailors with disabilities race against able bodied crews on a level playing field and achieve incredible success.

There's also a great deal of personal growth along the way... which Alan Grundy's story illustrates perfectly.

Smart Systems Strategy

As part of SWD's forward looking attitude we understand that as we grow, keeping track of information and keeping everyone informed is a challenge to overcome.

To address this challenge SWD recently installed a cloud based office system from Google.

This system allows easy information sharing and collaborative working among team members even if they are not physically in the same room.

SWD's off water team are now working through systems training and implementation to ensure the smoothest possible sailing during our growth phase.

Our new Saturday Social Sailing program kicks off this month. If you have a disability and are interested in meeting new friends and learning new skills - come along! We'd love to share a great day on the water with you. Please email info@sailorswithdisabilities.com to book your place.

Carers days are now on the calendar for October. These days are a chance for the amazing Mums, Dads, Grandparents, Guardians, Brothers, Sisters, friends and others who care for people with disability to take a bit of time out for themselves.
